What Is Final Mile Delivery?
Final mile delivery covers everything that happens between the last distribution point and the end customer, including appointment scheduling, route planning, customer notifications, careful in-home or on-site handling, and proof of delivery. It's also the most expensive part of shipping, often half or more of the total delivery cost. A full trailer moving down the highway is efficient. A single stop at a home or job site is not. That's why shippers of big and bulky products lean on a final mile partner instead of running their own fleet.
